Optical rotary bench system for photometric and radiometric measurements on materials

Sofca has created a complex electronic system for the management and control of the movement of the eight electrical axes of the "OPTICAL ROTARY BENCH SYSTEM FOR PHOTOMETRIC AND RADIOMETRIC MEASUREMENTS ON MATERIALS " of the Istituto Galileo Ferraris of Turin.
The set of equipment provided, such as:

  • PCs and Peripherals
  • Control unit SPM 136
  • MultiAX-136 software
  • Drives
  • Encoders, dynamo, limit switches
  • Electric panels

were integrated by Sofca in the laboratory and on the optical bench system.

MultiAX-136

The PC software Multi-AX, developed by Sofca, is a software able to focus the communication between multiple SPM136 controllers, also made by Sofca, on one serial port. The various axes-positioning controllers SPM136 are controlled by means of a RS232 and, in their turn, are able to manage up to a maximum of two axes for each unit. The main purpose of this software is to simplify the serial connections between the Work-Station and the various axes positioning controllers.

In addition to offering advantages in terms of connection, another feature is to select the command source between:

  • "Remote control", by which the operation commands from the Work-Station are redirected to the various control units or vice versa
  • "Local control" that is, the ability to move axes directly from MultiAx in order to make placements customized by the user.

Also in "remote control" there is the possibility of obtaining a trace of the commands sent by the Work-Station to the control units and their replies, thus having a real-time diagnostics of communication among the various devices.

Another feature of this software is the ability to interact with a mirroring console using a Wireless Connection; this allows to follow the operations of the axes-controllers within the range of the wireless LAN or, using the customer LAN, the range is extended to the same degree of LAN extension, in terms of structure and access permissions.

Photometric measurement system

Sofca has created a complex electronic system for the management and control of the movement of the two electrical axes of the "PHOTOMETRIC MEASUREMENT SYSTEM" of the Istituto Galileo Ferraris of Turin.
The set of equipment provided, such as:

  • Control unit SPM 125
  • Drives
  • Encoders, dynamo, limit switches
  • Planetary gearbox
  • Electric panels

were integrated by Sofca in the laboratory and on the optical bench system

The control unit SPM125 for axes- control allows axis positioning within the programmed tolerance and warnings when the tolerance is exceeded.

With the serial communication between the PC and the 125 SPM unit for axes-motion control, the following operations are available:

  • set the reading parameters of the angle during the movement
  • choose how to execute the move
  • start, stop or check the status of the shift
